Ivy Chen

Ivy Chen is a Senior Graphic Designer on the Strategic Communications team at Residential & Dining Enterprises, Stanford University, where she brings storytelling to life through thoughtful design and visual communication. A graduate of Visual Communications from San Francisco State University, Ivy combines technical expertise with a deep artistic sensibility rooted in global experience and cultural exploration.

With a lifelong passion for art, design, and aesthetics, Ivy’s creative journey has been shaped by traveling across 36 countries and over 100 cities. Each destination has expanded her perspective and inspired her to see beauty in diversity—reflected vividly in her design work. Whether it’s the textures of a foreign landscape or the vibrancy of a local market, her experiences translate into visual narratives that are both personal and universally resonant.

Born and raised in China and now based in the United States, Ivy seamlessly blends Eastern and Western influences in her design approach. Her work is a celebration of contrast and harmony—merging traditional motifs with contemporary style, cultural heritage with modern storytelling. This duality brings a distinctive voice to her creative process, making her work not only visually compelling but also emotionally engaging.

From a young age, Ivy aspired to be an artist. Through passion, perseverance, and an extroverted spirit, she has realized that dream—building a successful international design career marked by creativity, adaptability, and cultural depth. Her designs reflect who she is: joyful, expressive, thoughtful, and inspired by the world around her.

Whether she’s designing for a university community, a global audience, or her own artistic explorations, Ivy’s goal remains the same: to create work that connects people, tells meaningful stories, and captures the beauty of the world through design.

Artist Statement: How your work connects to the theme of Tapestry of Voices.

Ivy believes that voice is a powerful form of expression—and that art is its visual counterpart. Just as we use our voices to communicate thoughts and emotions, we can use art to express our ideas, identity, and inner strength. Her piece for Tapestry of Voices explores how art can embody culture, freedom, and the human spirit. Through her work, Ivy shares her personal reflections on the world and society, using visual storytelling as a means to spark thought, connection, and understanding.

Ivy believes that every voice matters, and that art is a voice without boundaries. Just as spoken words carry meaning and power, art allows us to express thoughts, emotions, and truths that transcend language. It is a visual form of storytelling—one that reflects not only our identities, but also our beliefs, dreams, and spirit.

Tapestry of Voices represents my exploration of how culture, freedom, and individuality are expressed through creative form. Inspired by the diversity of voices I’ve encountered throughout my travels to over 36 countries, this work weaves together elements from different traditions, places, and perspectives—celebrating both personal expression and collective experience.

Through this piece, I hope to share my feelings about the world and society—not with words, but with color, texture, and movement. It is my way of contributing to a broader dialogue—one that encourages us to listen to one another, to see beauty in difference, and to recognize the strength in our stories.
