Bobby Coles
Bobby Coles is an amateur underwater videographer who splits his time between Jamaica and Ohio. During the warmer months, he’s based near the scenic woods of Big Walnut Creek. In winter and early spring, he relocates to the crystal waters off the Jamaican west coast, capturing the island’s kaleidoscopic reefs and marine life.
Artist Statement
In my work, I seek to convey the tranquil majesty of underwater worlds—where sunlight fractures into dancing beams, visibility often exceeds thirty meters, and every reef is a thriving mosaic of color and motion. I deploy wide-angle and moving setups, to capture sequences of marine life cruising past coral arches, stingrays gliding over sandy flats, and sea turtles drifting gracefully through sun-dappled waters. By highlighting the serene clarity of these waters and the astonishing variety of sea life, I aim to invite viewers into a meditative space, one that celebrates both the beauty and fragility of our oceans.
